What is bullying?

The Office of Children and Young People’s Services defines bullying as a persistent, deliberate attempt to hurt or humiliate someone.

This means that bullying is when somebody plans to hurt or make fun of another person and does so again and again.

There may sometimes be misunderstanding about the meaning of the term ‘bullying’: one-off incidents, whilst they may be very serious and must always be dealt with, do not fall within the definition of ‘bullying’.

~

Bullying others is wrong. Bullying is hurtful, unkind and upsetting. Some people are bullied so badly that they don’t want to go to school any more. We all need to help make schools a safe place for everyone.

Cambridgeshire County Council supports your school to do everything it can to deal with bullying.
